The Importance of Speech in the Jewish Tradition, Sept 9, 16, 23

Leslie Schwartz will join us three Mondays in September, in the Classics in Religion series. This group is open to all and meets Mondays (11 a.m. to Noon) at the Penn Yan Public Library, 214 Main St. Penn Yan.

September 9, 16, and 23, 2019

Speech can teach, inspire, and create new worlds. Speech can also cause harm and distress. We will look at the role and value of speech as seen through a Jewish lens by studying biblical, rabbinic, and Chassidic sources, and discussing how their lessons can be applied to our lives today.

Facilitator:
Leslie Schwartz, Ph. D. Coming from a liberal Jewish tradition, Leslie’s approach to ancient Jewish texts emphasizes her admiration of their ultimate goal— to make our own lives holy through study, questioning, awe, and gratitude.
