Thích Nhất Hạnh was a Vietnamese Thiền Buddhist monk, peace activist, prolific author, poet, teacher, and founder of the Plum Village Tradition, historically recognized as the main inspiration for engaged Buddhism. Known as the “father of mindfulness”, Nhất Hạnh was a major influence on Western practices of Buddhism.

Facilitator: joAnn kowalski is a life-long learner on a spiritual journey to discover her place in the world. She recently retired from the educational field as an administrator and teacher at various levels of institutions. joAnn enjoys reading, walking in nature, biking, spending time with her dog, Sadie and helping out in the community whenever she can. She lives in Ithaca with her husband, Tom, Sadie, and Sophie the cat. She is a volunteer at Cobblestone Springs.
